How to prepare for a Brazilian wax?

by Claire on October 20, 2011

I know there are a lot of girls and women out there who are scared of getting a Brazilian wax, mostly because of the association between this procedure and the pain. I saw a ton of questions being asked, like: “How bad does it hurt? Does it worth the pain? Is it worst than getting a tattoo?” an so on and so forth.

Let me clear things up for you. Brazilian waxing is not so bad as they say. The first time will be the hardest and the most painful but it won’t hurt that much. As I always say, pain is something subjective and every persons has different pain thresholds and reacts different to pain. As a general rule, people with ticker and darker hair will feel a bit more discomfort than people with thinner and finner hair.

Anyways, here are some tips before getting a Brazilian wax:

  • Trim your hair – the hair down there should have a certain length in order to be properly waxed. If it is too long it will hurt more. The recommended length is around 1/4 inch – 1/2 inch, which is about the length of your eyebrows. If you haven’t trimmed your hair your aesthetician can do it before the waxing.
  • Don’t drink coffee - coffee will increase the sensitiveness of your skin which will make the procedure more painful.
  • Take a pill – take a pain killer 1 hour before the procedure. This will reduce the sensitivity and inflammation.
  • Don’t be affraid – feel free to ask any questions to your aesthetician before the waxing and try to relax.
